Residents of Mbak Atai along Calabar-Itu Highway decry deplorable road condition, call for state government’s intervention
Residents of Mbak Atai, a community along the Calabar-Itu highway, have expressed concerns over the worsening condition of their road, saying it has reportedly led to several accidents and even loss of lives.
Speaking with our Correspondent, Uwakmfon Walter, a cross-section of the residents said that the deteriorating state of the road has also taken a toll on businesses and economic activities in the area.
According to them, the poor road infrastructure has not only endangered lives but has also significantly affected the livelihoods of traders and transporters who depend on the route for their daily activities. Many businesses have reported losses as customers and suppliers find it difficult to navigate the road, leading to delays and increased costs.
As the rainy season approaches, the residents fear that the situation will only worsen, making the road even more impassable and posing greater risks to road users.
They, therefore, called on the state government to urgently intervene and carry out repairs before the rains set in, emphasizing that any further delay could lead to more accidents and hardship for the people.
