The Senate has approved a 50 million naira donation to the families of five security and civilian personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation that secured the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, LGA, of Oyo State.
The donation comes a day after the upper chamber paid tributes to the fallen personnel, commending the professionalism, courage and improved inter-agency collaboration that culminated in the successful rescue of the victims.
Recall that 39 schoolchildren and 7 teachers, abducted on May 15 in Oriire LGA, were recently freed by a joint security operation.
Announcing the intervention, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the Senate resolved to provide financial support to the bereaved families, particularly to assist the welfare of children left behind by the deceased. He directed that each of the five families receive 10 million naira, bringing the total donation to 50 million naira.
