Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a warning to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as contractors, over the slow pace of work at the Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo, saying delays and poor supervision will no longer be tolerated.
During an unannounced inspection of the project, the governor expressed disappointment after finding the site virtually deserted despite funds already being released. The project is a 50-unit development of five-bedroom duplexes for judges and other top judicial officials in the state.
Governor Eno warned that government should not have to chase contractors to complete projects they have already been paid to execute. He gave the contractors a two-week ultimatum to improve the pace of work or risk having their contracts terminated, adding that any funds owed to the government would be recovered.
The governor also stressed that employment opportunities created by government should be matched with commitment and hard work, not favoritism. He reaffirmed that the Judiciary Quarters project, which began in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.
