The Federal Government has introduced stricter verification requirements for newly recruited civil servants, directing that no employee should be added to the federal payroll without completing mandatory documentation and eligibility checks.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, is part of reforms to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS, aimed at preventing irregular enrolments and improving accountability in government spending. The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation stated that Ministries, Departments and Agencies must submit recruitment approvals, appointment letters and other supporting documents before newly recruited workers can be enrolled.
The office adds that incomplete applications or records with discrepancies will not be processed until the issues are resolved. It also said that the Accountant-General of the Federation will retain final approval authority, while officials responsible for payroll processing and approval will be held accountable for any violations.
