Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the rise in petrol price to N1,470 Naira per litre, saying the increase is worsening the cost-of-living crisis in Nigeria.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said higher fuel prices directly affect transportation, food, farming, manufacturing and other household expenses.
The ADC presidential candidate also called for accountability over the savings from the removal of petrol subsidy, arguing that the funds should be used to reduce the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Atiku compared the current price with 2008, when petrol sold for N65 Naira per litre despite crude oil reaching about 147 dollars per barrel under the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He said Nigerians are now paying as much as N1,470 Naira per litre with crude oil at around 102 dollars per barrel.
