Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has said that Nigerians will begin to see what he described as the tangible impact of effective leadership within his first year in office if elected President in 2027.
Obi made the pledge in his Independence Day address, where he promised to make governance measurable and accountable, with priority given to insecurity, education, healthcare and productive enterprise. He also said he would serve only one four-year term if elected.
The former Anambra State governor said his administration would tackle insecurity to enable farmers return to their farms, children return to school and businesses operate freely. He also promised to shift Nigeria from what he described as a consumption-driven economy to one focused on job creation, agriculture, manufacturing and human capital development.
Obi, who also pledged to spend his holidays within Nigeria if elected, called on citizens to demand accountability from public office holders. He said the country’s challenges could be addressed through leadership focused on productivity, security, welfare and shared prosperity.
