Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, as the Federal High Court in Kaduna fixed April 14 for a ruling on his bail application.
The court adjourned after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution, leaving El-Rufai’s fate hanging in the balance for nearly two weeks.
Speaking after proceedings, his lead counsel, Oluwole Iyamu, said the defence team remains hopeful. He confirmed that all arguments have been presented and expressed confidence that justice will prevail when the court delivers its decision.
Meanwhile, legal pressure continues to mount on the former governor. He is also facing a separate legal battle, with his team preparing for another court appearance on April 10 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Earlier developments added to the drama, as El-Rufai was escorted out of the court premises by ICPC operatives immediately after proceedings.
In a parallel case at the Kaduna State High Court in Kawo, El-Rufai—alongside co-defendant Amadu Sule—was arraigned on multiple charges, including abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage. These charges, filed by the ICPC, are separate from the ongoing Federal High Court matter.
With multiple cases unfolding and a crucial bail decision looming, the coming days could prove decisive for the embattled former governor.
