The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said that 78 million subscribers have so far received airtime compensation or refunds for failed airtime and data purchases in 2026.
The NCC said 75 million subscribers received compensation for poor quality of service, while nearly three million others received refunds for failed transactions. The Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, disclosed this in Lagos at the 95th edition of the Telecom Consumer Parliament. He said the Commission is working with telecom operators, the Central Bank of Nigeria and financial service providers to ensure consumers receive timely refunds when airtime or data purchases fail.
Maida also said the Commission recorded more than 6,500 network interventions this year, including upgrades and increased capacity, to improve the reliability of calls and internet services. He urged consumers to report unresolved complaints to the NCC after first contacting their service providers, adding that the Commission would continue to hold operators accountable for service quality.
