The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, has directed its members nationwide to immediately inspect their fuel dispensing meters following concerns raised by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, over under-dispensing.
PETROAN National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, said the association held an emergency meeting with its National Executive Council and subsequently instructed members to check their equipment for faults.
Gillis-Harry explained that faulty meters can either under-dispense or over-dispense fuel, assuring motorists that PETROAN members would ensure customers receive the quantity displayed on the pump.
He also urged motorists to monitor the quantity shown on dispensing meters, know their vehicle’s tank capacity and request receipts after purchases. The NMDPRA has warned that filling stations found short-changing consumers could face sanctions, including revocation of their operating licences.
