The Presidency has said that savings from the removal of fuel subsidy are funding the ongoing construction of the Bola Tinubu Barracks Phase II in Abuja, which is expected to accommodate more than 1,000 soldiers and their families.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed this during an inspection of the project. He said the development demonstrated how resources previously spent on fuel subsidy were being redirected towards infrastructure and other public assets.
He said the construction is also creating employment opportunities for engineers, artisans, labourers, technicians and other service providers, contributing to economic activities even before the project is completed.
The Presidency said the project forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to improve military welfare and strengthen national security, with similar barracks construction and expansion projects ongoing in Ekiti, Ebonyi and Osun states.
